Ultherapy Sydney

The Ashbrooke Cosmetic Surgery

What is an Ultherapy Procedure?

Ultherapy is a non-surgical, non-invasive skin treatment for the face and neck that uses medical ultrasound energy designed to promote skin firmness. It encourages collagen production below the skin’s surface to support skin structure over time. The ultrasound penetrates deeper layers to gently heat specific tissue depths under your skin. This triggers your skin’s natural healing response, prompting it to produce new collagen and elastin, the proteins that give skin its firmness, elasticity and youthful bounce.
Ulthera is a recognised ultrasound-based technology for facial firming. Ashbrooke Cosmetic Surgery provides Ulthera, which uses high-intensity ultrasound to contract facial skin and stimulate collagen production.
If you are noticing signs of skin laxity or fine lines that come with age, this treatment may help address these skin changes over time.
At Ashbrooke Cosmetic Surgery, we support skin health through Ultherapy. Sydney residents are welcome to contact us to learn more about this procedure.

Potential Effects of Ultherapy

Non-Surgical Approach

Ultherapy avoids the need for surgical procedures.

Collagen Stimulation

The treatment encourages collagen production to address skin laxity.

Customisable Treatment

Ultherapy can be tailored to individual needs and areas of focus.

Proven Technology

Ultherapy is an FDA-approved procedure with a record of safety and effectiveness. Please note, outcomes may vary for each individual.

How The Ultherapy Treatment Works

Ultherapy® delivers focused ultrasound energy to the same foundational layer typically addressed by surgeons during cosmetic surgery, without cutting or disrupting the surface of the skin.

This energy initiates the body’s natural response to stimulate the growth of fresh, new collagen and strengthen weak collagen.

The real results appear over 2–3 months as new collagen builds, gradually lifting and tightening skin on the face and neck and smoothing skin on the chest.

Unlike lasers, radio-frequency and other technologies, Ultherapy® bypasses the surface of the skin to deliver energy at optimal depths, temperature and precision. The use of ultrasound imaging allows practitioners to see the layers of tissue they are treating, ensuring energy is delivered to where it will be most beneficial.

While Ultherapy® does not duplicate the results of a facelift, it’s an alternative for those who are not ready for surgery—and for patients who wish to extend the effects of cosmetic surgery.

Scientifically shown to stimulate collagen production

Data from an Ultherapy® study,* in which live patients had an Ultherapy® treatment on one side of the face and not the other, has shown a quantitative increase in the rate of collagen production resulting from the Ultherapy® treatment. Specifically for collagen Types I and III, the types most often associated with ageing, the rate of collagen production on the Ultherapy®-treated side was higher compared to the untreated side.

Possible Risks of Ultherapy

As with all medical procedures, Ultherapy may involve certain risks:

Sensation of Warmth: Some patients may experience a sensation of warmth during or after the procedure.

Bruising: Bruising can occur in some cases.

Numbness and Tingling: Temporary numbness and tingling may be felt.

Swelling: Swelling may occur initially and usually subsides within a few days.

Scarring: Rarely, there is a slight risk of scarring.

Muscle Weakness: Although uncommon, muscle weakness can occur after the procedure.

Chronic Pain: Chronic pain is a rare but possible outcome.

The experience of each patient may vary.

Common Treatment Areas

Although each person’s “problem zones” are unique, there are several areas where Ultherapy is most commonly used and most effective:

Brow / forehead area

To gently lift and smooth skin on the forehead and around the brow. Helpful if eyelid hooding or drooping brows are a concern.

Face – lower and mid-face

cheeks, jawline, and lower face to improve contour and firmness.

Neck and under-chin area

A popular site for tightening loose skin and reducing the appearance of a “double chin.”

Décolletage / upper chest area

skin on the chest can also sag or lose firmness with age. Ultherapy can help smooth lines and improve skin tone in this area.

As Ultherapy treatments can be customisable, our practitioner can tailor the ultrasound depths and energy to best suit each area,  supporting a more balanced outcome and avoiding a “tight” or “over-treated” look.

Is Ultherapy Suitable for You?

Ultherapy may be appropriate for individuals who are looking to address mild to moderate skin laxity and prefer to avoid surgical options. Factors such as age, skin type, and individual goals will be assessed during a consultation.

What to Expect with Ultherapy Treatment

The Ultherapy procedure generally includes the following steps:

Pre-treatment Consultation

During this consultation, a qualified practitioner will assess suitability for the procedure, discuss goals, review skin type, and consider medical history.

Treatment Process

A smooth applicator is placed on the skin to project an image and deliver focused energy at specific depths to stimulate collagen production. The energy triggers gradual collagen growth, encouraging firmness over time.

Recovery and Aftercare

Most patients resume daily activities right after treatment, as the procedure is non-invasive. Mild redness or swelling may be present initially, which typically subsides within a few days.

Symptoms Ultherapy Can Improve

Ultherapy is useful for people noticing early to moderate signs of skin ageing or laxity. Common concerns it can address include:

Mild to moderate skin sagging

Around the cheeks, jawline, or neck, where gravity and ageing collagen loss can cause “droopiness.”

Loss of skin firmness and elasticity

Happens when skin feels thinner or begins to hang loosely.

Relaxed jawline and jowls

Ultherapy can help tighten the skin around the jaw and reduce jowl formation.

Fine lines and wrinkles

Shallow lines around the neck, chest (décolletage) or lower face. These can soften as new collagen fills in and skin texture improves.

Because Ultherapy stimulates deep tissue structure, it is most effective for skin laxity or sagging. However, it is not for deep volume loss (which may require alternative cosmetic procedures) or pigmentation issues.

How Long Do Results Last?

One of the advantages of Ultherapy is that results emerge gradually and can last considerably long, however, results don’t last “forever.” Since the treatment works by stimulating your own collagen production, the duration of visible improvements depends on your skin’s biology, lifestyle and ageing process.

2 -3 months

Most people start to notice subtle improvements within 2–3 months after treatment, as collagen production ramps up.

4 - 6 months

For full results, including firmer, lifted, tighter skin, often appear by about 4–6 months post-treatment.

12 - 18 months

For longer term benefits, various studies and reports generally place visible results in a range from 12–18 months for some individuals.

2 - 3 years

For many patients, the ideal appearance around the jawline/neck, may be maintained for 2–3 years, especially if good skin-care habits are followed (e.g. sun protection, healthy lifestyle, collagen-supportive skincare).

As skin continues ageing naturally, “maintenance” Ultherapy sessions, complementary treatments, and good skin-care habits (like skincare, sun protection, healthy diet) are often recommended to extend results as long as possible.

What are the potential effects of Ultherapy?

Ultherapy may have some possible effects, including side effects like redness, swelling, and discomfort. Rarely, other side effects such as bruising or temporary nerve issues may occur. Each patient’s experience may vary, and all potential effects should be discussed with your healthcare provider.

Ultherapy is a non-invasive option using ultrasound technology for those seeking skin improvement. Surgical facelifts may provide more noticeable, immediate results; however, they often involve greater procedural requirements and recovery periods. The most suitable approach depends on individual preferences, recovery tolerance, and personal treatment goals.

Yes, Ultherapy utilises ultrasound energy to stimulate collagen, promoting gradual improvements in skin texture and firmness. This non-surgical procedure has gained interest for its ability to support skin elasticity over time, addressing mild to moderate laxity. The results develop gradually as collagen levels increase.

Most patients achieve satisfactory results after 1–2 treatments. Your healthcare provider will determine the appropriate number of sessions for your needs and monitor your progress over time. Expectations for outcomes may vary by individual. Our doctor will provide an assessment and outline the expected timeframe for results based on each patient’s unique profile.
