Varicose Vein Injections Treatment Explained
Pre-treatment consultation
During this consultation, your veins will be examined, your overall health will be assessed, and the suitability of this treatment for your specific condition will be determined. This is also an opportunity for you to seek clarification and ask any questions to gain a thorough understanding of the procedure and its expected outcomes.
Treatment
Sclerotherapy for varicose veins is a very effective treatment. It involves injections into unwanted veins with a sclerosant. The solution creates shrinkage in the target veins, causing them to fade and disappear over several weeks. By applying immediate pressure on the injection sites, the opposing walls of the veins are brought together, causing them to stick together and effectively closing the vein.
Depending on the size of the area to be treated, sclerotherapy sessions generally last between 30 and 45 minutes or less. Patients may return to their normal daily activities immediately after sclerotherapy, as a 20-minute daily walk immediately after treatment is part of the protocol.
Sclerotherapy is considered the gold standard in varicose and spider vein treatment.
Recovery and Aftercare
Following the procedure, it’s common to experience some post-treatment effects, such as bruising and swelling, which are typically manageable.
You will be instructed to wear compression stockings and take necessary precautions during the recovery period. Sticking to these recommendations is essential to facilitate a smooth and successful recovery.
