Welcome to Ashbrooke Cosmetic Clinic
Traditional liposuction is a surgical body-contouring procedure designed to remove unwanted fat deposits from specific areas of the body. It works by making small incisions through which a thin tube (cannula) is inserted, and fat is manually disrupted and suctioned out. Often, a fluid solution containing saline, local anaesthetic, and a vasoconstrictor (such as epinephrine) is injected first (the “wet,” “super-wet” or “tumescent” technique) to numb the area, reduce bleeding, and make fat removal easier.
Traditional liposuction is particularly effective for removing moderately large volumes of fat, reshaping body contours, and improving proportion. It is commonly used by many surgeons for fat removal procedures and remains one of the standard options in plastic surgery for fat removal.
More advanced techniques such as Vaser Liposuction, with more precise fat removal and less trauma to surrounding tissue have been developed although the optimal technique will depend on your specific goals.
There are several possible results associated with these treatments:

Classic liposuction uses manual suction and cannulas to break down and remove fat, while VASER uses ultrasound energy to loosen fat before suction.

Vaser liposuction generally causes less bruising, swelling, and trauma to surrounding tissues than traditional liposuction.

Traditional liposuction is effective for removing larger volumes of fat. VASER allows for more precise removal and can promote better skin tightening.

Recovery after VASER is often quicker and more comfortable compared to traditional liposuction.
Ashbrooke Cosmetic Surgery offers traditional liposuction in Sydney to help you remove unwanted fat deposits from specific areas of the body, including abdominal, back, legs, arms, & facial areas. Our experienced team is here to guide you through every step of the process, ensuring you are well informed & feel confident and through the decision-making process.
At Ashbrooke Cosmetic Surgery Clinic, we are dedicated to answer any questions you have around unwanted fat with an experienced Medical Practitioner and helping you to make an informed decision.
The Liposuction procedure generally includes the following steps:
Your experience begins with a detailed consultation with our qualified doctors. During this appointment, we assess your areas of concern, review your medical history, and determine whether Liposuction is an appropriate option for your needs. We’ll explain the procedure in full, discuss expected outcomes, and develop a tailored treatment plan based on your individual goals and anatomy.
On the day of the procedure, we follow strict medical protocols to ensure your comfort and safety. Liposuction uses ultrasound-assisted technology to break down fat cells before gentle removal via suction. This technique is designed to target specific areas with precision while aiming to preserve surrounding tissues. The treatment is typically performed under local or general anaesthetic, depending on the case.
After your procedure, we provide ongoing support through scheduled follow-up appointments. During these visits, we monitor your healing progress and ensure post-treatment instructions are being followed. Recovery times may vary, and we’re here to address any questions or concerns throughout the process. Our goal is to ensure a smooth recovery and support you through every stage of care.
Liposuction can be used in many parts of the body where excess fat accumulates. Common treatment areas include

All surgical procedures carry risks. For traditional liposuction understanding potential risks will allow you to make an informed decision:

These are common post-surgery and may persist for several weeks in some individuals.

Mild to moderate pain or tenderness is expected post procedure and can usually be managed with pain relief medication.

Though uncommon, any surgical procedure carries the risk for infection at incision sites if sterile protocols are not strictly followed.

Blood (hematoma) or fluid (seroma) accumulation can develop post-surgery, requiring drainage to prevent further complications.

Small amounts of fluid, including blood, may leak from the incision sites post surgery.

Numbness or tingling in the skin, possibly temporary or sometimes longer lasting.

If patient health factors interfere (e.g. smoking, poor nutrition, pre-existing conditions).
Using a qualified health practitioner can help minimise these risks, which may vary between patients.
Traditional liposuction offers a number of benefits for those looking to improve body contour, shape, and proportion. Some of the key benefits include:

It is effective at eliminating larger volumes of stubborn fat in a single session.

Patients notice a visible change in body shape post surgery, with more defined contours as swelling decreases

Traditional liposuction can treat many different body areas (abdomen, thighs, arms, back, buttocks etc.), and can address multiple areas in one procedure.

It is a well-established fat removal, surgical method with decades of use. It enables surgeons to refine techniques and allows for predictable outcomes
The above results may vary among patients.
Suitable candidates for Liposuction are those that identify with the following factors below:

Are in good general health, with no uncontrolled medical issues (e.g. diabetes, heart disease).

You enjoy good overall health and are free from serious medical conditions, that could complicate surgery or recovery.

Are close to a healthy or stable weight. Note that a liposuction procedure is not a substitute for weight loss.

You are a non-smoker.

You’re currently not pregnant or nursing.

You have reasonably good skin elasticity, which supports smooth skin retraction following fat removal. If skin elasticity is poor, results may be less smooth

Have realistic expectations: understanding what the procedure can and cannot do (improve shape, not remove visceral fat; may leave some irregularities). The expectations will be detailed in the initial 1-on-1 consultations.

Recovery from liposuction involves several phases:

Expect swelling, bruising, mild discomfort, fatigue, and possibly drains or compression garments. Rest is critical during this period.

Many patients can return to light work within about 1 week, though it depends on the extent of surgery and your personal recovery speed.

Healing continues; swelling gradually subsides, treated areas settle, and more normal activity resumes; strenuous exercise may still be restricted.

Final contours become more visible as swelling fully resolves and tissues adapt. Patients are able to return to all activities.
Recovery period post liposuction will vary from patient to patient, and will depend on the extent of the procedure and individual recovery speed. To know more about the recovery phase, please book in a consult with our leading doctor to get more insights.

The cost for Liposuction may vary depending on individual treatment requirements. There is no one size fits all cost as the procedure is highly customised to your body and personal requirements.
Some factors that influence the cost of a liposuction include:

Size of the body area you would like treated

The number of areas you would like treated

What your desired outcome is

Number of sessions that will be required to achieve your desired outcome

Whether or not you require the day hospital for respite post-op

If you would like to receive extensive post-op support
During your 1-on-1 consultation, you will be provided with a tailored quote which takes into account all your needs and goals. If necessary, the doctor may provide payment plan options.
At Ashbrooke Cosmetic Surgery, we prioritise patient care, safety, and achieving realistic results. When you choose us for your abdomen liposuction in Sydney, you’ll benefit from:
Liposuction requires a structured consultation process to ensure patient safety and informed decision-making. Here is what you can expect from the consultation process:

A minimum of two consultations is required before surgery. The first should be in person with the doctor performing the procedure, while the second may be in person or via telehealth.

A cooling-off period of at least seven days must follow the second consultation before surgery can be booked or any deposit paid. Consent forms can only be signed after the second consultation.

All patients must complete a Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD) screening questionnaire. If results suggest possible BDD, referral to a qualified psychologist or psychiatrist is required before proceeding.

Any patient under the age of 18 must be referred to a psychiatrist or psychologist before they can be assessed by a cosmetic doctor.
All procedures are performed in line with current Australian health and safety regulations.

It depends on an individual’s goals, anatomy, skin quality, how much fat needs to be removed, how precise the contouring is, how much downtime they’re willing to endure, and cost. Traditional liposuction is well-proven and effective for larger volume fat removal, while Vaser Liposuction may offer finer definition, less trauma, and quicker recovery.
Initial recovery (return to light activities) is within several days. However, full recovery, which involves resolution of swelling, and final results may take weeks to several months depending on extent.
Yes, though incisions are small. The scars will fade over time, but how visible they are depends on your skin, incision location, and post-operative care.
The fat removed does not generally return. However, if you gain weight, remaining fat cells can enlarge, and new fat can accumulate elsewhere. Maintaining stable weight through healthy lifestyle is important.
Be in overall good health, stop or reduce smoking, avoid certain medications that increase bleeding (as per the surgeon’s guidance), ensure you have realistic expectations (to be gone over in the consultation), and follow the support plan for recovery.
Liposuction is primarily a body‑contouring procedure, not a weight‑loss operation. The amount of fat removed depends on your body shape, the area(s) being treated, health status, and surgeon assessment. Typically, many surgeons aim to remove around 3–5 litres of fat in a single session (equivalent to about ~4.5–5.5 kg).
It’s therefore important to set realistic expectations. Liposuction should be viewed as refining contour and addressing stubborn pockets of fat, rather than as a solution for significant weight loss.
When fat cells are removed from a treated area, they are permanently eliminated in that area. Therefore, in that specific location, the same fat cells won’t return. However, this does not mean you are immune to weight gain or fat accumulation. If you gain weight after surgery, remaining fat cells (including in untreated regions) can enlarge, and your body may deposit fat in new/un‑treated spots. Hence, maintaining a stable weight and healthy diet/exercise regimen is key to preserving your results.
Rebates through Medicare or private health insurance are only available when the surgery is deemed medically necessary, rather than purely cosmetic.
For typical cosmetic liposuction (for appearance rather than medical necessity), Medicare rebates generally do not apply.
